The world has lost the imagination of of a great writer. Anne McCaffrey: April 1, 1926 - November 21, 2011.

May the crystals always sing to her at sunrise and may she rest safely within the shadow of dragon wings.

The Works of Andre Norton - 12 Book Set - Kindle Edition for only $0.99 !!!

There must be something unnatural about being able to simply charge a device and then download something this easily. No software to load. No hard menus to navigate.

For a book addict like me, I'm going to have to pay close attention to my budget.

On 9 Feb 2011 I bit the bullet and ordered a Kindle [WiFi & 3G] from Amazon along with a leather holder and a gift card for myself.

Guess what came in ... TODAY!!! Less than 48 hours between order and delivery. That's unreal.

I think I'm just going to sit here, watch it charge and marvel in the wonderfulness.

Finally caught The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Okay, not epic by any means, but it *does* cement one thing for me.

I am *clearly* on "Team Jacob" .

Smart *and* decorative. Works for me.

Yes, I am a Trekkie, or Trekker or whatever we're bing called this week. Have been since the original series came out in the 60's. And I have always had an interest in some of the more little known of the 'main' races. By 'main', I mean the ones that have back story and plot lines that thread throughout all the series, movies, books, etc. One of my primary areas of interest in STARFLEET International and the Starfleet Academy and Starfleet Marine Corps Academy has been the Romulans. One of these days I need to sit down and figure out what I want to do for my 'high level' paper on them.

I considered myself lucky when I found an very good condition box set of "The Way of Dera" last year for *very* little. I mean something like $30 US for the three book set, posters, etc. Absolutely great references, etc.

Well, lightning strikes again. Just nailed a 'very good condition' set of FASA gaming books: "The Orions: Book of Common Knowledge" and "The Orions: Book of Deep Knowledge". And for less than the price listed here.

Woo Hoo!

There's a couple of other Romulan reference books I'd like to track down, maybe another one on the Orions. Now if only someone would write a reference book about the Caitians, I'd be very content.

And now? Back to dealing with a full flat of really fresh strawberries I just picked up from a roadside stand.

I've just finished reading the latest novel out in Jim Butcher's "Dresden Files" series - "Changes".

I have just one word.

That is all...

Totally ticked off. Even worse is the 'book adapted from the screenplay adapted from the original novel' that barely shares the same name, let alone anything with any resemblance to the original novel.

Got two serious goodies in the mail in the last 24 hours.

A pair of cook books from [ profile] gabri "Quick and Easy Sushi Cook Book" and "The Woman's Day Cookbook" . I love to read cookbooks. And this is a great combo to get to play with.

And from [ profile] amycat1959 a copy of "Nightlight: A Parody". If I was ever going to be struck by lightning for lampooning the whole 'Twilight' series, this will definitely make me a target.

Thank you both - you both know me too well.

"Two Lumps" .l

Why, yes, Virginia, there are some of us who don't think "Twilight" is 'like, the most fantastic book ever written!'
{a semi-direct quote overheard while standing in line at a local bookstore today}

Edit: Okay, I need to make an additional comment here. I am not slamming anyone who likes any particular genre of book. I enjoy a wide variety myself. What I was lampooning was the overwhelming, over-the-top responses I've seen to this book series and the utter disdain I've also seen [and recently experienced because of this post] to those who don't think that this is Pulitzer Prize winning material.

So to answer some of the responses, why yes, Virginia, I actually *did* read 'Twilight'. It's ... okay. It's not my cup of tea. When it comes to the genre of supernatural romance, I far prefer Carrie Vaughn's 'Kitty the Werewolf' series or Rachel Vincent's werecat series. There are more, but those two come first to mind.

But for Christ's sake, already, *Don't* slam someone else, especially in public, because they don't think that your super-special sparkling vampire series are "The best books ever!!" and call them idiots to their face. Especially if you're over... oh... let's say ... 10 years old? It looks ridiculous in a preteen, it's past impolite in a teen and it's totally ludicrous in any human being over the age of 16.

So, yes ... that means you Ms. Forty-Plus Special Snowflake who was in the line ahead of me at the local Barnes and Nobel. Just grab your books, quit harassing the book seller and the other patrons who have the misfortune of being in the same line with you and GTFO of the store. You make me weep for the future of humanity.

Especially if you've already reproduced.

Not because of you reading preferences, but your manners.

Okay, I admit it. I'm a heathen. A heretic. A 'Johnny Come Lately' or what-have-you. I found 'Dr. Who' late in life. Like the Ninth Doctor late. And no matter how hard I try, I just don't click with any of the previous Doctors. Doctor's Nine and Ten are *my* Doctors and I'm content with that.

But for those of you who do, the BBC is offering 8 'Dr Who' ebooks for free download on their site.

So if Doctor's One through Eight float your catamaran, go here Classic Dr. Who ebooksl, download and enjoy.

[My thanks to [ profile] alyse who passed this info out on their LJ]
