1) Open the closest book - not a favorite or most intellectual book - but the book closest at the moment, to page 56
2) Write out the fifth sentence, as well as two to five sentences following
3) tag five innocents [or more] - sorry folks - I tag anyone who's reading this.

-----------------------------------------------------

As Colby slides a non-rebreather mask over Dave's head, I grab his right arm and palpate a quick BP. It's okay, about 140 systolic, but his heart rate is 120. Colby taps me on the shoulder, and hands me a spiked bag of saline.

You're reading my mind, kid. You need a pat on the back when this is over.

Colby is a First Responder, and about as sparky as a kid can get, but he's doing good. I slip a 16 gauge into Dave's right arm and tape it down. It ain't pretty - just three wraps with 3 inch tape - but it's effective. (The neat little chevrons I was taught to make in medic school pull loose too easily.)

from: "Life, Death and Everything In Between: A Paramedic's Memories" by Steven 'Kelly" Grayson, NREMT-P.

FWIW: Steve, aka 'AD' or 'Ambulance Driver' as he's known over on the med blogs, seems to be a 'seriously cool dude'[tm] and someone I would not only be willing to ride in the back of the 'big bus' with, but would probably let take care of me and mine. That's assuming I ever crash-n-burn or am looking for a job down in Louisiana.

ADDENDA: Yes, I read this sort of stuff recreationally. It's the medical equivalent of 'No shit! There I was...'

I know this one sounds a bit weird, but you wouldn't believe the number of times I had to rerun this so that it wouldn't come out sounding ... well... obscene is probably the right term.
