seticatToday Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and at least 12 others were shot at close range at a Tucson Arizona Safeway. She was holding a pre-advertised meeting for her local constituents. Giffords is still in surgery for a GSW to the head *at this time*. Several others who were taken to the same facility are in critical or serious condition, including a child [age unknown].
Over the last couple of days, there have been three separate packages [that we know of] in the Washington DC area that were, basically, incendiary devices addressed to government members that went off in two separate post officers, to include the Sec. of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano.
Just what the fuck is going on with my country here? Congresswoman Giffords' a moderate Democrat and I know Arizona has gotten more and more right wing militant over the last few months, but I can't stomach it if it was this sort of head set and personal motivation that promoted it. Someone from that area associated with one of the newspapers in that area describes the political feels in that state as the 'Militant Right'.
I have never disagreed with someone's right to express their own political opinion. That's one of the things I wore the uniform to support. But it is *never* all right to express that opinion with physical force.
UPDATE: 18 people shot, 6 have died.
Update - 2PM MST: Congressman Griffords is still alive and out of surgery, but one of the dead was a 'young child - 9 years old'. The bastard who did the shooting - there are no words.
