Things to consider.

With both the rent and parking here going up next month, I'm having to face the facts that I'm going to need to make a move sometime in the mid future. That's going to entail a fair amount of just pre-prep stuff before even looking for a place or the majority of things going into their moving boxes, The couch has to die. And I mean that literally, It's huge, heavy and on 2x4. It needs to be dismembered with power tools and it's gutted body hauled our the way you'd cut up and haul an elk. And there are two or three other furniture things like that.
But to be able to do any of it, I'm going to need a small and dedicated team of folks to help me with the move and sort. You know, the first pass keep and toss that you often can't do for yourself, but can do for someone else. I always can clean someone else's house better than mine. And then sort what I' m going to keep, what can go to friends, what can be sold and what will need to be placed into storage for a bit [like most of the stuff Jeff left behind]. I'll need to see just how tightly I can consolidate my stuff into a more movable load.
When I see what I have left - the absolutely can't live without, then I'll have some ideas of the next step. This area [Tacoma] is incredibly painful to live in - costs are freaking high. So I'm willing to consider other locations, so long as I get good internet and I can find some sort of 'YMCA' or something. But having grown up in Enumclaw in the 50's & 60's.. I don't mind rustic. Just so I can live fairly well, don't have to end up putting bill and pet care monies before things like good healthy people food. And maybe save up for the occ. trip every now and then.
Probably friends who live in the areas I'm considering [Portland, OR, Boise-Cauldwell-Nampa, ID, Eugene, OR, some possible spots in Montana [depending], Key West, FL if I want to feel *real* froggy and wind up on my Goddess son's front pouch. Maybe spend some time with Doc & Tams in Denver, CO. Don't know. The only things holding me in this immediate area are some long standing friends who have gotten me through a lot over the years, my clinicians at VA, my Barony, my Star Fleet Ship, and my EMT supported by the local Red Cross.
But when I start to sit back and take a realistic look at everything and add up all the pros and cons [and there really are a fair number of pros], it might be time to make a major life change and start clear and over. I don't have to make a decision right now, but I *have* come to the place where I know one will need to be made. That's a step for me.
Or maybe I should just run an add in each Kingdom Newsletter: Founding Baroness of Celtic extraction seeking new abode. Willing to relocate and bring 30 yars of SCA hard work skills and ethics to your area in return for some intel on local housing and the occasional kind or appreciative word.
Who knows - stranger things have worked.
Hum... I wonder what would happen to my pensions if I emigrated....
