Okay, just so everyone's on the same sheet of music here, I am very supportive of local fire departments. Any more pro-FD and I'd have my own set of bunkers and be slinging on a SCOTT SCBA Air-Pak on a reg. basis. [And who knows, that may still happen some time in the future if anyone wants an over 50, out-of-shape, EMT who's just nuts enough to go into an involved structure and haul someone out.]
But it just doesn't look right to catch a TV news clip on a local structure fire and watch a couple of the local 'fire gods' walking away from the totally gutted structure, still in bunks and such, smoking cigarettes.
Human, yes. Realistic, yep. But it just looks... wrong.
